Growing up, I really struggled to make friends, as well as a whole other plethora of growing-up pains. I was often told by people around me I was "weird" and "creepy". "Kate" is definitely a tribute to the younger me, who used to struggle so much. Luckily, I've since been able to accept myself, as well as my autism, which I was diagnosed with at age 9. My longtime friend Kate (ironic, I know) was featured in this video. They're someone who continues to inspire and support me through their love for music, as well as cheesy films.
I'm definitely inspired by other artists. My favourite band at the moment has to be "They Might be Giants", but my top artist is definitely "Lemon Demon". I take inspiration from lots of genres, and I didn't exactly mean to be the current face of "bedroom pop", but here I am!
The indie aesthetic is something I've always enjoyed, I really wanted to express this in my music video, so I decided to test my arty side and try my hand at some animation!
I need to show kids in my situation that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I've made it and so can you. You're so much more than an outcast, you're creative and eventually you'll find a group of people who love you and your quirks, and accept you for everything you are.
